We’re excited to announce that users of NewsGator’s products (FeedDemon, NetNewsWire, NewsGator Inbox, and NewsGator Online) can now share their Clippings on ReadBurner! This means that a Clipping is counted in the same way as a share on Google Reader or Netvibes, and you’ll now see NewsGator users side-by-side with Google Reader and Netvibes users when looking at an item on ReadBurner:

Each NewsGator user that shares their Clippings will also get their own page in the same way users of other services do, so they can keep track of how many times their Clippings are being shared and see who else is also sharing them. To share your NewsGator Clippings, go to our “Add Feed” page and follow the instructions. Nick Bradbury of NewsGator has also posted about our partnership – check out his post to get some more specific instructions to make sure your Clippings get included!
In other news, we’ve made a UI enhancement that we think both users and publishers will love. Now, when you click on a headline, the full story from the originating site will load in a lightbox on ReadBurner. As opposed to other services that pull in the full RSS feed, this means that the publisher’s entire site still loads, and it means that users can leave comments there too, all without leaving ReadBurner. Of course, if you prefer to just visit the site directly in a new window, just click the red arrow next to the headline and you can do just that.

We hope you enjoy the changes and we warmly welcome NewsGator users to the ReadBurner family!

23|Jun|2008 1Really slick! I don’t use NewsGator but I know that Steve Hodson is going to be thrilled! And I am definitely looking forward to playing with the new embedded popup stuff. Thanks!
Sigh, I got to break one of the two big aggregator stories today. But that’s cool, I’ll write it up this evening.

23|Jun|2008 2The lightbox is definitely not my cup of tea; why not make it optional? Let the user decide whether or not the links open in a lightbox.

23|Jun|2008 3@Ben they do have the option … the headline opens the lightbox, the red arrow opens the article in a new browser tab/window

24|Jun|2008 9Sorry for the off-topic comment, but a couple of suggestions:
You need a clever 404 page! You are still using the default. Come on! Who’s running the gig over there?
Also, I suggest you have a redirect from http://www.readburner.com/blog to http://blog.readburner.com. For some reason, I typed the former URL like 4 times tonight.

No apologies ever please!!!
404 page? Yeah, we’ll put that in asap. You saw the flavor today when we went down for an hour
Trogdorrrrrrrr in the NIGHTTTTT.
And the redirect? No problemo. Puttin’ in a ticket.

24|Jun|2008 11Typo on your 404 page. D’oh! Good job though, I have a soft spot for Strong Bad!

24|Jun|2008 12Oh, while I am thinking of it.. you need a prominent back link to ReadBurner from this blog.. even the “about” page doesn’t have a link!

24|Jun|2008 13@J. Phil, thanks for the feedback and for catching the typo (its about time for some more coffee!).

We’ll add a link to the blog as well. Great suggestions!

25|Jun|2008 14One more suggestion: Consider making the lightbox auto-size to a percentage of the browser window width. Say, 90% or something. That way the window isn’t some width smaller that 800px, which I am assuming you are using as your ReadBurner full column width.
Reasoning? Most blogs also format their stuff for 800px wide minimum. This means your lightbox iframe is always going to force the issue of ‘how well does the client site deal with sub-800px browser windows?’ .. at best, it’s fine. At worst, it looks crappy.

25|Jun|2008 15Thomas - thanks, yes having a link to the blog is good. But what I meant is you need a big link from this blog BACK to the main ReadBurner page. Think about it — would you rather be stuck on ReadBurner, or the ReadBurner blog?
Wait — I’m not sure how you would answer that. Let’s just say most people are more interested in Readburner.

25|Jun|2008 16J. Phil,
I completely agree with the auto-size lightbox deal. That is something we are already working on, as well as some other minor enhancements to that window.
As far as the link goes, I forgot the “back to ReadBurner” part in my last post
You’re right though, I would rather have people stuck on ReadBurner… there is not enough orange here!
Thanks for the great feedback, keep it coming.
